A week at the lakes

I've seen a few friends' photo blogs and thought it would be a good idea to start my own. I'm going to try and keep it updated regularly. I feel this first entry is worthy of it being so.

Two Sundays ago I went out to the Park Rapids area with several other classmates for a Documentary Photography class with the coolest Professor at MSUM, Wayne. We went out there back in May to document resort owners during their preparation for the resort season. Such as putting in docks, cleaning cabins, fixing stuff, etc. Last week all of us students went out again for a week to document vacationers enjoying themselves at the beach, playing lawn games, and simply relaxing away at the lake. To me, last week was the most relaxing 7 days of my summer. I didn't want to leave...

She caught this fish and it swallowed her hook so she yanked it out and wanted to practice filleting. I thought it was pretty cool an 11yr old took it upon herself to take on the fine art of filleting a fish.

Good ole wiffle ball

Patches. One of the craziest dogs I've ever encountered. Whenever he saw a shadow, he would try to chase it or jump on it. He was hilarious to witness.

The same goes for wheels. He would chase them and bark up a storm.

Future plumber?

This gentleman here happened to have photos and old guest logs found in the attic which date back to the 1923. That is the furthest date back their resort can be documented to.

The original owners from 1923. Bill and Marianne Craft.

Back in the 20's it only took $15 a week per person to stay at the resort. Nowadays most places easily run a thousand bucks a week.

While he was removing logs during renovation, he found pieces of old newspaper wrinkled up between 2 pieces of timber which were used as insulation. He managed to save this piece which dates back to September 3rd, 1923.

He was also lucky enough to have one of the "Purple People Eaters", Carl Eller, stay a week at the resort and go fishing with the Hall of Famer.
